Hardware interfaces for remote access and control of your rig

The LCU-3 is an inexpensive unit that interfaces your radio to your computer. Simply plug one end into your radio, and the other end into a 25-pin serial port on your computer (you may use a 9=> 25-pin adaptor). Tell LOGic which radio you have and which port you plugged it into.
It will now automatically log band, mode, and frequency directly from your radio. With the touch of a key, it will set your radio to the frequency displayed on your log screen or LOGic's radio control database. You may also enter frequency and mode from the keyboard, or set your radio to the frequency specified by a packet cluster spot.

These interfaces cost less and are more convenient to install than the units provided by the radio manufacturers. All circuitry is built into the shell of a DB-25 connector. The unit is powered from the computer's port, so no battery power cable is needed. The LCU-3 works with all Kenwood, Icom, and Yaesu (except FT980 and FT757GX, FT757GX2 ok) radios that are computer interfaceable. It replaces Kenwood's IF-232C, Icom's CT-17, and Yaesu's FIF-232.

The LCU-3 works with TRX-manager, LOGic and most other software.

Note to Kenwood users!

Replaces the Kenwood IF-232c.  Works with all rigs that list the IF-232c as an option, including TS-50, TS-140, TS-440, TS-450, TS-680, TS-690, TS-711, TS-811, TS-850, TS-940, TS-950, R5000.

TS-440S and R5000 owners must order chips to go inside the radio.

Owners of some older Kenwood radios must obtain an IF-10 kit from Kenwood as follows:

TS-711, TS-811 IF-10A
TS-940 IF-10B
TS-140, TS-680 IF10-C

The TS-870s has a built-in interface. Purchase a cable as described in the manual from any computer store.  If you want to make your own, we have been informed that a 9-pin RS232 cable with pins 2, 3, 5, 7, and 8 connected straight-thru is needed with this rig.

The TS-570 series also has a built-in interface.  We have no reason to believe that it is any different from the cable described for the 870.

Note to Icom users!  This interface works with any rig that lists the Icom CT-17 as an option.  Supported rigs include  IC-271, IC-471, IC-706, IC-725, IC-726, IC-728, IC-735, IC-736, IC-746, IC-751, IC-756, IC-761, IC-764, IC-765, IC775, IC781, IC-970, IC-R71, IC-R72, IC-R700, IC-R7000, IC-R7100, IC-R9000

IC-751A requires a UX-14 interface (available only from Icom) in addition to the LCU-3.  Look for a 1/8" phone jack labeled REMOTE or something like that on the back of your rig.   If you have one, all you need is the LCU-3.

Note to Yaesu owners!  These interfaces replace the Yaesu FIF-232 interface. Yaesu uses two types of connectors.

These rigs use the standard big DIN connector.  Order LCU-Y:

    FT-736, FT-747, FT-767, FT-980, FT-990, FT-1000, FT-1000D, Heath SB-1400, FRG-100, FRG-9600

These rigs use a mini-DIN connector. Order LCU-Y and LCU-AD:
    FT-757GXII, FT-840,  FT-890, FT-900:

These rigs have built-in interfaces and do not need a level converter. Buy the cable as described in your manual at any computer store:

FT-847     (uses a standard 9-pin null-modem cable)
FT-920 (standard cable, NOT null modem)
FT-1000MP (standard cable, NOT null modem)

This interface will not work with: FT-980 and FT-757GX!
but FT-757GXII is supported!.
