Frequency counter and bug hunter

The Aceco frequency counters can be used as a measurement device as well as a bug hunter. They display the frequency of the direct fed in or strongest received signal. Hidden transmitters are easily found this way (bug hunter). The frequency counters are not designed to repeat the recieved signals. The counters find analogue signals, the SC-1 even digital signals.

The Aceco near field recievers adjust themselves automatically (or remotely) to the strongest signal and repeat it. In doing so only FM signals will be decoded.

The Aceco FC-6002Mk2 is specifically designed as a bug hunter with wide frequency range.

The Aceco frequency counter come complete with rechargeable batteries, wall charger (230V) and antenna (BNC jack) in a solid metal case. The counters are very sensitive, when using the supplied telescopic antenna a range of about 20m can be achieved. Operating time approx. 6 hrs with fully charged batteries.

Concerning the frequency precisison the manufacturer writes:

The timebase of our counters is less than 1 PPM at room temperature. Before shipping all the counters are fully calibrated with an external frequency standard input (HP 8648C Signal Generator).

The stability specifications are as follows:
a. Initial Accuracy at Room Temperature: ±1PPM.
b. Frequency Stability vs. Temperature (-10 to 60°C): ±5PPM in the entire range from -10 to +60°C.
c. Frequency Stability vs. Aging/Year: ±2PPM.

Portable Frequency Counter up to 2.8 GHz

The MFJ-886B is a battery operated frequency counter, which is well suitable for portable operations due it's small size and light weight. The frequency counter measures frequencies between 300 kHz and 2.8GHz in two selectable ranges (300 kHz- 50MHz, 50 - 2800 MHz). With different gate time settings the display accuracy can be selected from 1 kHz over 100 and 10 to 1Hz. A convenient bracket helps to put the counter in an upright position on the desk for easier readability and operation. With the supplied telescope whip antenna (BNC connector) the MFJ-886B can be turned into a bug hunting device. Just by getting close to the transmitter the the frequency of the strongest signal is automatically displayed (but not demodulated). With this measuring system an unknown system can be checked very fast and without direct, electrical contact. Even hidden transmitters can be found easily.

The built-in rechargeable LiIon battery offers 800mAh capacity and lasts for about 12 hours operation. A power saving sleep mode is activated after 20 minutes of no operation. Supplied is a 12V wall charger, but the counter can be supplied by any 12V external source as well. Operation during charging of the battery is possible. A full charge takes approx. 3 to 4 hours. Supplied is also a 50cm long telescopic whip with BNC connector and knuckle. The BNC input of the MFJ-886B has an impedance of 50 Ω. Size 60 x 80 x 30mm, weight 105g.

The FC-6002 Mk2 is a portable RF tracer and bug hunter. It covers the frequency from 1 MHz to 6000MHz. Used to find hidden transmitters like GSM and DECT phones, audio and video spy transmitters at 2.4GHz and many other RF emitting devices in the usual frequency range.

The receiver detects digital (GSM, DECT) as well as analog signals. The detection distance is about 1 to 3m, depending on transmit power. The alarm is either by a signal tone, which frequency changes relative to the received signal strenght (ie.e distance), or by a silent vibration alarm. Further a 5 digit LED bar graph is shown. This silent alarm allows to find the transmitter without alerting the intruder.

The FC-6002 Mk2 is equipped with internal rechargeable batteries and fits in any shirt pocket. With the small size and ease of use it becomes very easy to find hidden wireless bugs or stuck transmitters in a conference or hotel room or vehicle.

RF Explorer spectrum analyzer with USB port

The RF Explorer is a portable spectrum analyzer. The LC display with background light shows a section of the radio spectrum and the receivable signals. Signal strength is shown in dBm or dBµV. This way you can see available signals on chosen frequency range at a glance. This makes the RF Explorer a very useful measurement instrument as well a fast working bug hunter to find hidden transmitters easily.

The RF Explorer has a frequency range from 15 to 2700 Mhz covering all important radio ranges that are used for surveillance cameras, mini transmitters, WLAN, emergency services radio and many others. Two different antenna inputs for various frequency ranges allow for the use of specially adapted antennas that make the RF Explorer even more sensitive. Minimal sensitivity of the spectrum analyzer is -115dBm. A marker on the LC display indicates the level of the strongest signal automatically.

Center frequency and displayed spectrum are easily adjusted in the menu, as well which antenna input to use. The display can memorize and display received maximum values. This means you can leave the receiver unattended for a while and check later if a signal was received. A special Wifi mode allows for detailed monitoring of channels on 2.4Ghz WLAN.

The USB port of the RF Explorer is used to charge the internal Li-Ion battery (1000mAh) and to transfer data to a PC or MAC computer. With the help of freely available software the received signal spectrum can be displayed on the computer and saved for documentary purposes. The Software is open source, the USB port transfer protocol is documented, too. This makes the RF Explorer very open and perfect for hackers and hobbyists, who want to implement their own ideas. Also, firmware updates are applied via USB. The USB-Cable is not included.

SMA Male/Female Adaptor

All RF connectors wear with use. The RF Explorer SMA ports are subject to minimal wear each time the connector interface is coupled and de-coupled with an antenna, a SMA cable, an attenuator or a RF device of any kind. If you repeat plug/unplug operations over the RF Explorer SMA port hundreds of times, the SMA port may underperform over time and exhibit undesired attenuation.

To protect the SMA port for frequent plug/unplug operations, you can use this adaptor and keep it directly attached to the RF Explorer port. Then you plug/unplug other RF devices into this adaptor, not the original SMA port. After hundreds of operations, if the adaptor wear and show attenuation or reliability problems, you can just replace it by a new one and always keep your original RF Explorer SMA port intact.
