IC-E80 with optional HM-189GPS
The IC-E80 is a dual band radio (one band at a time) for VHF and UHF (2m and 70cm). The handheld radio is D-Star capable and can use the new features of the worldwide digital network.
In addition to the amateur bands from 144-146 and 430-440 MHz the IC-E80 offers a wide band receiver from 0.495 to 999.99MHz. This truns the radio into a universal campanion for travels, allowing to listen to the radio and other services. More than 1000 memories, organized in 26 banks, allows to store all of the often used frequencies. Numerous scan possibilities are offered to quickly search for active channels. The memories can use an alpha numeric name for each channel.
Icom offers a free software download for the IC-E80. With this software the management of the memories and other settings becomes very easy. This program is also used for cloning two similar radios, or to copy memory contents between the IC-E80 and the mobile radio IC-E880. To use the free software an optional cable is required (OPC-1529R or OPC-478UC).
The optional GPS microphone/speaker HM-189GPS enables you to transmit your position via DV mode (D-Star). The own position is displayed, as well as the direction and distance to a memorized position or to another D-Star station. As an alternative to the HM-189GPS an external GPS receiver can be used with the 'data' socket (required optional adapter cable OPC-1529R).
The output power is max. 5 W on either band, reducible in 3 steps to 0.1W. An external power supply from 10 to 16V can be used, with external power the battery is charged also during operation. The external microphone/speaker uses traditional 2.5mm/3.5 mm phone jacks, allowing to use most older accessories with the IC-E80D. An extra 'dat' socket is used for cloning or for the connection to an external GPS receiver (requires optional cable OPC-1529R).
This radio is out of production since the end of 2013. We show it here for orientation purposes and to show the still available accessories.
