microHAM u2R SO2R Station Controller

The microHam Micro-R (aka u2r) station controller is intended for all radio amateurs with two radios and any soundcard interface. Despite the many functions the microHAM u2R is easy to install and operate. The provided functions are for example manual or automatic switching of microphone, headphone, CW key and PTT to each radio, control of a band (antenna) switch and much more. The microHAM u2R is supported by many contest programs in automatic mode.

The microHAM u2R is a controller for two radios and offers everything you need for Single-Op, Two-Radio (SO2R) contest operations. Just install the supplied software, connect your microphone, key, foot switch and headphones to the controller, connect the radios - and go! All controls are easy to operate and conveniently located at the front panel. With the push of a button you select which audio (Radio 1 or 2 or both) you hear, same as which radio receives the transmit audio from the soundcard. or you let the software select this automatically for you, which is very helpful during a contest. The telegraphy keying is done with a K1EL Winkey2 chip, assuring precise and accurate keying of the transmitter. Several LEDs show the current state of the microHAM u2R controller.

Unlike any other commercially available SO2R solution (except MK2R and MK2R+ from microHAM), micro2R uses either USB or LPT control, includes a proven WinKey2 CW keyer, support for either electret or dynamic microphones, a UART compatible FSK port for each radio, and built-in support for the voice keyer capabilities of the most popular contesting software.

Note: Unlike as with other devices by microHam, there are no ready-made cables for various radios and the microHAM u2R. This is due to the fact that the number of possible combinations of radios, soundcard interfaces, antenna switches etc. are just too large to make such an offer possible. In other words: you have to make the cables between microHAM u2R and your radio yourself.

microHAM USB Device Router y micrHAM Device Configurator son compatibles con todas las versiones de 32 bits y 64 bits de Windows 7, Windows 8, Vista, XP, 2000 y 2003.

Application Notes microHAM u2R

Here are some application notes on how to integrate the microHAM u2R into your station. The manual has several more of these examples.

microHAM u2R Basic Setup

The most simple setup with just a microHAM u2R and no other interface. Microphone, key, headphones and foot switch are connected to the microHAM u2R controller. The controller guides these signals to each radio, either automatically by software control or manually selected from the front panel buttons. The microphone audio can be fed to the computer soundcard (SCMIC output) and back again (SCOUT input), so you can use an equalizer (software on the computer), or make recordings from the station microphone. The transmit audio can be used from the soundcard, e.g. for voice keyer software. If the receive audio is required (e.g. for digi modes, or for recording of the audio) it must be fed through separate galvanic insulators (1:1 transformers) to the sound card of the computer.

The two CAT signals from the radios are connected directly to the computer. From there the contest software transmits the frequency information to the microHAM u2R controller, which in turn uses this information to control the band switches (antenna switches). With this switch an automatic selection of band filters or antennas is possible.

The sequence control of the microHAM u2R or the contest software prevents boith radios from being keyed at the same time, each transceiver has the correct antenna and each one gets the right transmit audio, all automatically.

The antenna switch 'Double Six Switch' by microHam is just an example. You can use any other band switch, and operation without an automated antenna switch is of course also possible. Only that the operator has to make sure that the right antenna is connected...

The manual of the microHAM u2R shows more examples like this, e.g. with other interfaces.

microHAM u2R and Micro-Keyer-II Setup

Many OMS and YLs already own a microHam MicroKeyer-II soundcard interface. This application note shows how to integrate that with the microHAM u2R controller. This setup is especially useful for digital mode operation (but not limited to digimodes).

Again all elemets like mic, key, phones etc. are connected to the microHAM u2R, and from tehre to the two radios. The audio signal (transmit and receive) and the CAT information of the first radio is connected to the MicroKeyer-II, just as usual. The CAT data from the second radio is connected directly to the computer, the receive audio of the 2nd radio is connected to the SubRX input of the MicroKeyer-II. The internal soundcard of the computer is not used, this function is provided by the MicroKeyer-II.

The antenna switch 'Double Six Switch' by microHam is just an example. You can use any other band switch, and operation without an automated antenna switch is of course also possible. Only that the operator has to make sure that the right antenna is connected...
