Le interfacce soundcard sono usate principalmente per isolare il PC dal transceiver. Questo riduce il rischio di loop di massa ,previene disturbi e runori sulla modulazione.Oltre all'isolamento dai segnali AF alcuni di questi dispositivi offrono funzioni varie come regolazione del livello , controllo del PTT , CW keying e inoltre l'interfaccia CAT.
I piu' recenti sviluppi ti permettono di interfacciarsi tramite la porta USB invece della seriale per il controllo delle funzioni.
