The 1217MOX is a compact moxon antenna for the two WARC bands 12 and 17m. Two nested, horizontal moxon elements provide a good gain and an excellent forward/back ratio at very small dimensions. The aluminium construction and stainless steel mountings are designed for rough conditions, the maximum wind speed is 160 km/h.
Moxon elements have the advantage that they are relatively broadband. So a flat SWR ratio can be expected over the whole band. The elements are tunable to adjust the SWR minimum to the local conditions (height above ground etc.). In addition, the antenna is almost exactly designed for an impedance of 50 Ω, so that no further, lossy matching element is required. The antenna requires only one feeder line for both bands. A balun for 3kW is included in delivery, optional baluns for 5 and 10 kW are available.
Free space gain 12m: ca. 5.5 dBi

Front/Back ratio 12m: > 13 dB
Front/Back ratio 17m: > 26 dB
Boom length: 227cm
Rotating radius: 333 cm
Weight: 14.2 kg
The VP8PJ DX-pedition February/March 2020 used two of these antennas for 12 and 17m with great success. WiMo sponsored these two antennas and two additional 3 Band MOX antennas. We are very happy to contribute to that successful DX-pedition to South Orkney, many thanks to the team!
