The G5RV is a very common and versatile antenna consisting of a dipole fed by a feed cable made of parallel wire. Any length of 50Ω coax cable can then be connected to the end of the parallel wire. Models with 300 or 450 Ω supply cable are available, the 450 Ω cable is slightly longer and has slightly lower losses. The SWR on the specified bands is between 1:1 and 1:4, so a tuner is usually required. The antenna tuners built into the radios are usually sufficient in terms of impedance range, so an additional tuner is usually not required. On the WARC bands, the antenna can of course also be adjusted via a tuner, although higher impedances must be expected. The antennas can also be mounted with a bend or the ends of the legs can be angled downwards if space is limited. The parallel wire feed should hang freely if possible.

EAntenna manufactures these antennas with a PL-socket at the end of the feed line, the max. allowed transmitting power is 1.5kW.

The ZS6BKW antenna is a version of the G5RV optimised by Brian Austin G0GSF (ex ZS6BKW). Here we tried to improve the matching in most bands by analysing the lengths and the transformation of the chicken ladder. This made both the antenna and the chicken ladder a bit shorter, so it might fit in even more gardens. The better matching reduces the need for tuning with the tuner and therefore reduces losses.
