Supply Scope
- Airborne-5 coaxial cable
Airborne-5 by the Italian manufacturer Messi & Paoloni: Particularly light coaxial cable with an outer diameter of 5mm, thus usable as a direct replacement for RG-58. But significantly lower attenuation, namely only 7dB/100m at 50 MHz, 3.8 dB less than RG-58. At 1 GHz 30dB/100m, 28 dB less than RG-58! 100m of the cable weighs only 2.3 kg, about 1.4 kg less than RG-58. Very interesting for DXpeditions where weight is important, for example for airline luggage.
Airborne-5 has a PE outer sheath with special UV protection and can thus be laid in salt water or in the ground for long periods without gradually shrinking like PVC cable lying in water. The foamed dielectric has three layers to prevent moisture penetration. The braiding is made of a light but robust AlMg alloy, and a plastic-coated foil is also inserted. Airborne-5 coaxial cable is robust and very tread-resistant, the temperature range is -40... +70C. The power handling is 1200 W at 3.5 MHz and 720 W at 28 MHz. The usual connectors for RG-58 fit.
Attenuation at 144 MHz: 11db/100m.
Impedance: 50 Ohm
