Supply Scope

  • Chameleon P-Loop Mag.Loop
  • an approx. 4 m long cable with jacket wave lock
The new P-Loop by Chameleon Antennas (USA) was developed for evry easy use with a solid construction at the same time. The very used telescopic carrier has a rubberized carrying handle for truely protable operation.

The coupling is achieved with a Faraday loop made of a single piece of aluminium, which is extremely solid. The coupling loop is securely attached to the telescopic stand with a screw. This reduces any variations when installing and tuning the P-Loop, all tuning settings are easily reproducible. The outer loop of the antenna is made from fairly rigid coaxial cable (LMR-400), which is attached to the tuning bix with two silver plated PL connectors. The fixation of the outer loop to the Faraday coupling loop is done with a Velcro strap. By adjusting the length of the telescopic stand of the antenna the loop form is adjusted to be roughly circular. All in all the installation takes about 2 to 3 minutes. The telescopic carrier has a standard 1/4"-20 thread at the bottom and can be installed on any camera tripod! Camera tripods can be purchased everywhere or are already at hand, which is why we do not offer these as accessories.

The Chameleon P-Loop utilizes a 6:1 reduction gear for the tuning capacitor. This results in a very precise and facile tuning of the resonant frequency. The tning capacitor is mounted electrically isolated inside the tuning box, further reducing the capacitive influence of the hand when tuning the antenna. The tuning box is weatherproof within certain limits when mounted vertically. Due to the downward installation of the capacitor axle no water ingress is possible from this side. This is very convenient, because you don't have to disassemble the antenna when a light rain shower comes up...

By their very nature magnetic loop antennas are very narrow banded due to the Hi Q of the resonant circuit. Chameleon claims a 15kHz wide range on 40m where the antenna can be used without further adjustments. Outside this resonance the antenna must be tuned again. This resonance is wider on the higher bands. Due to the narrow band resosnance a loop antenna acts like a pre-selector and thus helps the receiver to not become overloaded.

The diameter of the instaled loop is approx. 90cm, height approx. 105cm. The outer loop is slightly elliptical. The coax feed is done with a coaxial cable, which is attached on the Farady loop (PL socket). A 4m long coaxial cable with a choke is included in shipment. The maximum power is 25W in SSB, or 10W in CW, FM, AM or RTTY. The low weight of 1.5 kg makes this antenna a practical companion for camping trips or for a field day. The supplied cancvas bag has an inner size of approx 38 x 26 x 10cm, and offers some more space for other accessories. A printed installation manual is included (english).
