Wideband Antennas
Broadband (wideband) antennas are those that cover a very wide frequency range over several octaves. Their field of application is very diverse, from laboratory use for experiments and monitoring tasks to special applications such as ground penetrating radar.
Broadband antennas are available as omnidirectional and directional antennas. The gain is usually lower than with narrowband antennas. Physics dictate, that antennas either have a wide bandwidth or a high gain, but not both at the same time. Therefore, you have to accept a compromise, to which extent depends on the application. If only little space is available, an antenna with a wide frequency range and moderate gain is often the better solution.
