The ARS-USB rotor interface allows computer-controlled adjustment of the antenna direction with a rotor. The interface is simply connected to the computer with the enclosed USB cable. Included drivers emulate a virtual serial port, which can then be used with almost any satellite orbit calculation programme or contest programme.

Due to the flexible design of the hardware, the ARS-USB can be connected to virtually any rotor on the market. Rotors with and without brakes are supported. The ARS-USB interface is intended for azimuth rotors, the ARS-USB-EL interface for rotors with azimuth and elevation control (satellite rotors). The cable connection from the interface to the rotor must be made by the user. For this purpose, the corresponding signals (left/right keys, up/down, position and ground) are led from the control unit to the interface. There are screw terminals on the board for easy connection of the cables.

The interface is supplied in a solid metal housing. On the front, an LC display informs about the current position and operating status. With 2 (ARS-USB) or 4 buttons (ARS-EL USB), the rotor can be controlled in left/right rotation or raising/lowering of the antenna. The ARS-USB interface works with a microcontroller whose software can be updated via the USB interface if necessary.

The USB driver sets up a so-called virtual serial interface (COM interface) on the computer. This type of control is used by practically every web tracking programme or contest programme and is therefore very universal. The ARS-USB interface emulates the protocol of the widely used Yaesu rotors. Any software that supports the Yaesu rotors can be used. Alternatively, the interface can be controlled manually by entering commands directly via a terminal programme (e.g. Hyperterm). Before the first start-up, the ARS-USB interface must be calibrated once to the rotor.

The enclosed ARSVCOM software (for Windows) allows computer control independent of a web tracking or contest programme. This programme is also used for calibration. The ARSVCOM can access the rotor interface simultaneously with another software.

The interface is not powered via USB, but with 12V from an external power supply (not included). A 12V cable with an open end is included in the delivery. Furthermore, a USB cable and a CD-ROM with the English manual and the ARSVCOM software are included. The current consumption is approx. 100 to 130mA.
