Magical sound with the Yaesu FT-710 Acoustic Enhanced Speaker System
The FT-710 is Yaesu's compact shortwave transceiver that adopts the SDR technology of the FT-DX101 and FT-DX10. With its Acoustic Enhanced Speaker System (AESS), it offers excellent sound quality. In addition, it uses the same perfected SDR technology as the 'big ones', but in a compact format that is affordable for every budget.
Playing at the top - this is what the Hybrid SDR receiver concept from Yaesu offers in the FT-DX10
The new compact FT-DX10 HF transceiver from Yaesu uses the same receiver system as the FT-DX101D and FT-DX101MP.
Performance and reception quality at a high level
The FT-710 has an adjustable transmission power of 5 to 100 W, allowing it to be adapted to different requirements. The RF input stage is based on the experience of the FT-DX101 and FT-DX10 transceivers and uses SDR technology. A series of band filters filter out unwanted signals from outside the band. In addition, the high-resolution 250 MHz synthesizer enables simultaneous reception of multiple signals. The FT-DX10 is a shortwave transceiver with up to 100W transmission power and a hybrid SDR receiver. Hybrid SDR means that Yaesu uses two receiver trains simultaneously - a narrowband SDR with downconverter to 9 MHz, switchable roofing filters and digital SDR technology from the IF. And in parallel, a broadband, direct-scanning SDR that provides the color 5" LC display with a high-resolution waterfall and precise spectrum. It is not for nothing that the FT-DX101 with the same receiver concept is number 1 on the renowned Sherwood list.
Focus on display and operation
Operation of the FT-710 is simplified by the large 4.3" color display. Similar to its larger siblings, a mouse and/or keyboard can be connected for easier control. A 'Preset' function facilitates the quick and optimal setting of all parameters for FT-8 operation. The operation of the FT-DX10 is based on the larger models and offers a 5" color touch display for fast and precise navigation on the bands. The VFO knob is surrounded by another ring that facilitates the operation of the clarifier, memory and user-specific functions. The compact design of the FT-DX10 provides a well thought-out arrangement of the controls, which are easily and quickly accessible. A special feature is the USB inputs to which a conventional PC keyboard and mouse can be connected.
Extensive additional functions and extended options
The FT-710 has a built-in antenna tuner that quickly adjusts antennas that are not precisely tuned. If an external tuner is required, the FT-710 offers the option of connecting the Yaesu FC-40 tuner. To improve integration into the radio station, connections for an external display, USB ports (type A and type B) and a network connection are available. An SD memory card stores all settings, memory contents and records QSOs. Firmware updates are carried out conveniently and securely via the SD card. The FT-DX10 offers the option of extending the frequency range for the 4m band. The transceiver can also be remote-controlled via the SCU-10LAN option.
Price comparison of technological excellence and value
The Yaesu FT-710 scores with a lower price compared to the FT-DX10 HF. Both devices are priced in the entry-level class.
Transceiver duel: FT-710 vs FT-DX10 - Find your ideal companion for ham radio
Both the FT-710 and the FT-DX10 offer advanced technologies and features for amateur radio. The FT-710 impresses with its compact format and the Acoustic Enhanced Speaker System, while the FT-DX10 scores with its hybrid SDR receiver and excellent reception quality. Both models are user-friendly and expandable, although the FT-DX10 also impresses with its color 5" touch display and the option of connecting external devices. Ultimately, the choice of the right transceiver depends on individual needs and preferences.
