DV-Mega Euronode Hotspot
IMPORTANT! CURRENT INFORMATION ON THE UPDATE!
Before you install the new update on your DV Euronode, please note the following: The current update may take a little longer than you expect. Sometimes it is 60 seconds, sometimes 3 to 4 minutes. This depends a little on the size of the updates, the load on the server and the local connection. At various times, the display will show "Done". In this case, however, "Done" does not mean "finished" but rather "Please be patient a little longer". The update is only really completed when "Finished" appears in the display. So go ahead and get yourself a cup of coffee or tea and wait until your DV Euronode is ready for use again.
Comfortable Digital Voice Hotspot for DMR, D-Star, C4FM, P25...
Amateur radio operation via Digital Voice (DV) modes like DMR, D-Star or C4FM still enjoys great popularity. This is shown by the increasing number of relays that are put on the air for these modes as well as the steadily increasing number of IDs that are assigned to the participants. The advantages of networking digital stations via the Internet are clear; it allows worldwide operation with the simplest of means. But one problem remains - what to do if no relay with the favorite mode of operation can be reached nearby? Because mostly a handheld radio with low transmitting power and limited range is used here.
The remedy is called "hotspot", i.e. the operation of an own system which establishes the transition from the radio side to the wired Internet side. Since usually only one subscriber is to be transmitted, the RF side is much simpler than with a full-fledged relay. There is no need for full duplex operation, and the range can also be limited to a few dozen meters with just a few milliwatts of transmit power. This provides reliable coverage of the user's own home or garden.
Until now, many hotspot solutions were built from individual components, including the computer platform, the radio module and the respective software. All that had to be supplemented by the user to a complete system, a task which can overtax less computer-experienced humans also fast. Here the well-known supplier 'DV Mega' from the Netherlands now offers a complete solution, the system "DV Euronode".
The DV Euronode consists of a single-board computer, which is compatible with the well-known Raspberry PI, but much smaller. A radio module with connection for the included 70cm antenna is plugged onto it. The system is completed with a
preinstalled software called "Pi-Star", a very widely used digital voice solution.
For commissioning it is only necessary to enter the own callsign and ID, as well as to select the desired operating modes. Several modes from DMR, D-Star, C4FM (System Fusion) and P25 can be used simultaneously. The Euronode can connect to the Internet either via wired Ethernet or WLAN. Commissioning is greatly simplified by a small, power-saving OLED display. For example, this display shows the IP address of the Euronode in its own network. The configuration itself is done via the clear web interface of Pi-Star. So nothing stands in the way of operating your own hotspot. No more tinkering or guessing around, everything works together right away. Only the small power supply (USB, 5V) has to be provided by the user.
The DV Euronode is now available from WiMo in Herxheim, the price is 149 € incl. VAT.
