Extremely wideband antenna: Logarithmic Periodic Dipole Array (aka LPDA, LogPer) for 10 to 20 m, optimised for the amateur radio bands.

The "Band Optimised Log.Per Antenna" is a dipole array with 10 elements for the frequency range from 14 to 30 MHz. The advantage of this antenna type is the extreme broadband performance with an even gain curve without dips. This makes this antenna suitable not only for amateur radio, but also for commercial services and for demanding SWLs.

Through careful calculations and practical optimisations, the spacing and lengths of the elements have been chosen to favour the amateur radio bands. Hence the name "Band Optimised LPDA". This results in a uniform gain of approx. 7 dBi over the entire frequency range, with an SWR of mostly better than 1.5:1. The length of 7.7m is relatively short for an antenna of this type. Since only one feed line is necessary, this broadband antenna can be used excellently with modern SDR tramscevers, which are able to operate on several bands simultaneously.

The double boom made of square aluminium with an edge length of 4 cm supports the alternately arranged elements and provides the support for the bracing in the middle. The two boom tubes also serve as feed lines for high power, no further adjustments are necessary. A choke or common mode balun can be used.  By using high quality aluminium, as used in aircraft construction, as well as stainless steel on other parts, the BOLPA-10 is also designed for adverse weather and high wind speeds of up to 160 km/h.
