The Chameleon MPAS 2.0 is a shortwave broadband antenna for quick use in the field, for portable activities, fielddays or expeditions.
The MPAS 2.0 is a modular system consisting of various components that enable the quick construction of an antenna for shortwave. The working principle is that of a broadband antenna with 1:5 transformer (G8JNJ design) and an end-fed long wire. In most cases, a tuner will be used to match the antenna. All components are of extremely robust construction and are designed for quick set-up.
Included are the "Hybrid Micro" transformer (or optionally the "Hybrid Mini" transformer with a higher load capacity) as a matching element, the CHA MIL radiator 2.0 with 287cm length, the CHA MIL EXT extender with 268cm length, an end-fed wire with 21.9m length and a wire counterweight with 7.5m length. All this is complemented by mounting options and a robust backpack.
With these components, it is easy to set up a practical antenna system that makes the best use of the available terrain. Designs such as vertical or horizontal radiators are possible, but also slopers, inverted-L or inverted-V. With a low profile, the result is a good NVIS (Near Vertical Incident Skywave) antenna, even on a balcony or on a car, the setup is feasible in certain configurations.
The "Hybrid Micro/Mini" antenna base as well as the CHA MIL and CHA MIL EXT antennas are equipped with 3/8" screw connections and thus offer the possibility to quickly assemble a vertical antenna. Or you can use the supplied aerial wire including the enclosed insulators to suspend an end-fed long wire. The combination of these elements offers a lot of possibilities to adapt to local conditions in the best possible way. The comprehensive manual (English) offers many practical examples and also basic information on shortwave communication to quickly get a working antenna system for portable use with the MPAS 2.0.
