Marco, DC1MTS, provides detailed information on the antenna design and portable operation in his test report.

The well thought-out CHA TDL (Tactical Delta Loop) from Chameleon Antenna is a portable antenna for shortwave and 6m, which was specially developed for quick setup with a small footprint and small transport dimensions. This antenna is therefore ideal for portable use, on field days, on camping vacations or even on small sites with limited space.

Operation is possible on all amateur radio bands from 3.5 to 54.0 MHz (80 - 6 m), but is most effective on the bands from 10.1 to 54.0 MHz (30 - 6 m). The Tactical Delta Loop also provides acceptable NVIS (Near-Vertical Incidence Skywave) propagation over shorter distances on the bands from 3.5 to 7.0 MHz (80 - 40m), making it a useful backup antenna for EMCOMM.

Unlike many other portable antennas, the Tactical Delta Loop is not designed exclusively for low power operation (QRP).

Even the version with the 'Hybrid-Micro' base allows transmission powers of up to 100 watts in SSB phone and 25 watts for digital modes with a high duty cycle. If that is not enough: The version with the 'Hybrid-Mini' base is designed for transmitting powers of up to 500 watts in SSB and is particularly suitable for digital modes of operation with a high duty cycle; up to 40 watts are possible here.

It is also worth mentioning that it can be configured as a horizontally polarized, inverted delta loop antenna or as a ground-mounted vertical antenna, in which case the loop wire is simply used as a counterweight. The advantages of the delta loop configuration over a vertical antenna are higher efficiency, lower noise and a certain broadside directivity.

An antenna tuner or coupler is required for operation on the amateur radio bands from 3.5 to 7.0 MHz (80 - 40 m).

The setup can usually be carried out by one person in 5 minutes.

The CHA-TDL consists of two 5 meter telescopic elements with associated "V" coupler, a matching transformer (Hybrid-Micro or Hybrid-Mini), 7.5 meter loop wire and ground spike with PL and counterweight connector.

The antennas manufactured by Chameleon Antenna are characterized by versatility, reliability and durability.
