The Colibri-NANO USB stick is a very powerful SDR receiver with direct sampling. The frequency range goes from 9 kHz to 55 MHz. The AD converter works with 14 bit word width and thus achieves excellent 110 dB BDR. The sampling rate is 122 MHz and, together with the anti-aliasing filter, offers a direct-sampling receiver up to 55 MHz. The filter can be switched off so that the receiver can also receive higher frequencies up to 500 MHz via 'undersampling', but then with reduced reception parameters.

Due to the improved, faster processing of the IQ data on the SDR, a maximum sampling width of approx. 3 MHz is achieved. This means that 3 MHz of the spectrum can be observed and recorded simultaneously. This is quite an outstanding value for this class of SDR receivers. The software (download at eesdr.com) offers a receiver and demodulators for all common operating modes. Digimodes can be realised via VAC with external programs.

Another special feature of the Colibri-NANO SDR receiver is the preamplifier or attenuator, adjustable in 0.5 dB steps, which can be set from -31 to +6 dB. Together with the low noise floor of -127 to -131 dBm and the very good sensitivity of 0.05 µV, this results in a very low-noise receiver with excellent large-signal stability. This makes the Colibri-NANO a perfect scanner for shortwave, whether you are in an environment with a lot of very strong RF signals or not.

The Colibri-NANO SDR receiver can be operated directly on the user's PC, but also as a remote receiver at a remote location. The freely available ExpertRemote software is used for this purpose. A small computer is required at the SDR's location, for example a Raspberry Pi; a relatively slow UMTS or LTE connection is sufficient as an internet connection. This way, you can also use very remote and HF-quiet locations.

The ExpertSDR2 software (download at eesdr.com) offers demodulators for all common operating modes. Digimodes can easily be used by integrating virtual sound cards (VAC). The software of the Colibri-NANO also offers support for a CAT interface to a classic amateur radio transceiver in order to be synchronised with it. Visually, the ExpertSDR2 software stands out with its support for high-resolution 4K monitors. The operating system can be Windows (from XP to Vista, Win 7, 8, or 10, 32 or 64 bit) or Linux (Ubuntu/Kubuntu). Alternatively, other software such as SDR# [1] or HDSDR can be used.
