Technical description Delta-C240
The Delta-C240 from InnovAntennas is a 2-element Yagi antenna for the
40m band with particularly good efficiency and a relatively small
footprint.
There are several methods to shorten a dipole or
elements of an antenna, including extension coils and roof capacitors at
the element end. With coils, position is critical to efficiency -
further in the middle is mechanically easier, further out is
electrically better. Justin, G0KSC has used both methods to build the
Delta-C240 antenna robustly and efficiently, limiting the size to one
that many radio amateurs can still install on the mast. The Delta-C240
2-element Yagi has coils in the middle of the element halves and roof
capacitors at the ends of the elements. The boom length is only 7m and
the maximum width is 11.5m.
The Delta-C240 2-element Yagi
requires no guy wires! The square boom has an edge length of 60mm and a
wall thickness of 2mm, making it very stable even without guy wires. The
fact that individual pictures show this antenna with guy wires is the
individual decision of the operator, for example because a lot of snow
is expected in winter. The construction is designed for heavy loads, so
the elements have a large diameter of 50mm in the middle. Towards the
outside, the thickness decreases rapidly to save weight, but the ends
still have a diameter of 25mm. The coax connection is uncomplicated via
screw terminals, without balun. For insulation of the cable we recommend
'Rubbaseal', a liquid rubber coating for cables. The maximum
permissible transmitting power is 3000 W.
Application description Delta-C240
The 40 m band is particularly attractive due to its propagation conditions, also and especially for contest participants. Depending on the time of day, both local and international connections are possible. However, a good antenna for 40m is already a challenge due to the relatively long wavelength. A 2-element Yagi antenna for this band, however, is something that can be placed on the mast if it is constructed appropriately. Here InnovAntennas offers a very good solution with the Delta-C240 Yagi.
The Delta-C240 is a compact Yagi for the 40m band with 2 elements. The shortening of the dipole halves is done both by extension coils and roof capacitors at the ends of the elements. The boom length could be limited to 7m. This results in a relatively large, usable bandwidth of approx. 120 kHz with an SWR of =< 2:1. Thus, when mounted approx. 20m above ground, a gain of approx. 10.5 dBi (6.3 dBi free space gain) is obtained. The connection is made via an adjustable "hairpin" feed, which does not negatively affect the usable bandwidth. Enjoy an efficient 40m 2-element beam that is compact enough to fit on the house or mast of many radio amateurs.
