Technical description
Extremely popular omnidirectional VHF antennas
Diamond antennas are ruggedly constructed and will last for many years without problems. The base is made of anodized cast aluminum, the outer tube of UV-resistant plastic (FRP, Fibre Reinforced Plastic). The internal protected radiator is constructed of thick brass or copper-bronze. This makes the antennas durable even in harsh conditions, they can usually be used up to 144km/h wind speed or more. They are mounted using a supplied standpipe that protects the connector socket from external influences. The standpipe is attached to a mast with two supplied clamps and U-bolts. Radials (if used), screws and U-bolts are stainless steel, standpipe and clamps are aluminum.
The antennas are electrically grounded, thus avoiding static charge and the associated patter in the receiver. The Diamond SE, X and VX series use multiple stacked radiators to achieve higher gain. The radiation becomes flatter as the gain increases. The longer antennas are disassembled into two or three parts for transport. This keeps transportation costs within reasonable limits. These antennas must be assembled before the first use. The screw points are well sealed with an O-ring to prevent water ingress.
Application description
Almost every radio amateur has such an "X" on the roof - the Diamond omnidirectional antenna. Perfect for the local club call channel, the local round on the next relay or the APRS station. They are available for 2m and 70cm, some models also for 23cm and 6m.
The models X-50NA and X-200A are actually intended for the North American market. These antennas cover better the larger 70cm frequency range used there (435-450 MHz). This makes them very suitable for PMR446 in Europe. The regular versions of the X-50N/X-200 are a bit lower in the frequency range (430-440 MHz) and have no more optimal matching at 446 MHz. Some models (VX-, SE-) are built without radials and are thus very well suited for confined spaces or for installation on board a sailboat. As Diamond's German general agency, we supply only the original antennas in the well-known top quality. As you would expect from a reliable manufacturer, Diamond still supplies the right spare parts even after many years, in case a radial gets lost.
