WIMO Expert opinion

You benefit from mobile amateur radio connections wherever you have Internet access. Extensive compatibility with different digital modes allows you to use various amateur radio networks. Plug-and-play configuration saves you time and effort during setup. Compact design means you can easily take the hotspot with you.
Without existing knowledge of digital amateur radio technologies, the initial setup could be a bit of a challenge. Might be slightly more expensive than simple models, but you get a wide range of functions.

Technical description Euronode

The DVMEGA Euronode Hotspot is a "Digital Voice" Hotspot for all digital modes like DMR, D-Star, C4FM and more. Such a hotspot is always used when no relay for digital modes is available. The Euronode hotspot provides an access point for the digital radio signal and connects to the worldwide network of the respective system.

DVMEGA Euronode is based on a micro-computer that is compatible with the well-known Raspberry Pi, but much smaller in size. This small computer is the basis and offers a slot for a micro SD card, an Ethernet and USB connection.
The transceiver board is attached to this micro-computer and contains a chip from Analog Devices for the radio signal. The transceiver has a transmitting power of a few milliwatts, sufficient to supply a fieldday site or your own house with a signal in the 70cm amateur radio band. The exact operating frequency is set via the web interface. There is also a 1" OLED display that always shows the current operating status.

The operating system and the Pi-Star software are pre-installed on the micro-SD card supplied.

A 5V power supply unit with max. 2A is required for operation, for example a charger for a smartphone (not included).

Operation on a USB 2.0 socket on a PC will almost certainly fail due to the high power requirements of the hotspot. Operation on a USB 3.0 can work, but this is not guaranteed. We therefore strongly advise you to operate the hotspot only with its own 5V/2A power supply (not included).

Digital Voice (DV) operation, i.e. amateur radio via systems such as DMR, System Fusion (Yaesu C4FM), P25 or D-Star offer many advantages. One of them is the worldwide networked operation of relays. But what do you do if no DV relay is available nearby?
Very simple - you operate your own hotspot. In other words, a transition from the radio system to the Internet that connects the relays. In this way, the hotspot becomes part of the worldwide community and enables radio communication with the other participants.

The DVMEGA Euronode is such a hotspot. The Euronode is ready to use, the software ("Pi-Star" and Linux operating system) is pre-installed. Just provide a 5V power supply, screw on the antenna and off you go. The Euronode can access the network via Ethernet using a cable connection or wirelessly via Wifi, depending on what is available. This means that the tiny hotspot can also be used on a holiday at a campsite with WLAN, for example.

The Euronode hotspot is easily configured via the web interface of the well-known Pi-Star software. This software is already pre-installed, you only have to set the operating mode(s), your own callsign, possibly the access data for the WLAN and the frequency, then you are ready to go. Software updates are also convenient and largely automated via the web interface. The hotspot comes in a small housing (aluminium/Plexiglas) and is only 52 x 56 x 32mm, the weight is only 83g.
