What is UHF radio?

UHF radio refers to communication over the ultra-high frequency range, which lies in the frequency spectrum from 300 MHz to 3 GHz. In this frequency range the wavelength is shorter, resulting in a higher frequency and allowing more compact antennas to be used. UHF signals have good penetration capabilities in urban areas and are widely used for television broadcasts, cell phones, satellite communications and, of course, amateur radio. In amateur radio, UHF bands are typically used for local to regional communication connections and can also be used for the operation of amateur radio satellites (Oszar).
