Questions & Answers
What waves do satellites transmit?
Amateur radio satellites mostly use VHF (Very High Frequency) and UHF (Ultra High Frequency) bands for communication. These are usually frequency ranges of 144-146 MHz (2 meter band) and 430-440 MHz (70 centimeter band). Some satellites also use higher microwave frequencies, such as the 1.2 GHz (23 centimeter band), 2.4 GHz (13 centimeter band) and 5.8 GHz band for uplinks and downlinks. These frequencies allow amateurs to conduct communications via satellite relays, also called OSCAR (Orbiting Satellite Carrying Amateur Radio) satellites.
