Technical description FT-2980E
The FT-2980E is a VHF-FM mobile transceiver with very compact dimensions of only 160 x 50 x 185 mm at 1.9 kg. It offers up to 80 watts of transmit power, reducible to 5, 10 or 30 watts. Thanks to the very robust construction with a large heat sink with deep cooling fins, no fan is needed for cooling, yet operation from -20 to 60°C is possible.
The unit offers a large, easy-to-read LC display. The 200 memory channels can be given alphanumeric designations, and the display can be switched to show either the frequency or the channel name. The transceiver can also be programmed with the PC using optional software plus connection cable (ADMS-2900).
DCS and CTCSS encoders and decoders are built in. The receiver is equipped with a tuned pre-filter for excellent large-signal immunity. A power cord, the MH-48A6JA DTMF microphone and a mounting bracket are already included.
Application description FT-2980E
The FT-2980E offers VHF mobile radio at the highest power level: with 80 W transmitting power, the transceiver can deliver directly what others can only offer with a separate power amplifier. Thanks to the large heat sink, there is no need for a fan, which can otherwise lead to accelerated contamination of the unit in mobile operation. With 3 watts AF power, operation is no problem even in noisy environments, whether mobile in a car or portable at an event.
CTCSS and DCS filter functions ensure undisturbed operation and targeted addressing of individual participants or entire groups. Tuning is possible in steps of 5, 10, 12.5, 15, 20, 50 or 100 kHz, providing a sensible solution for every country and every band plan. Reception is also possible far beyond the 2 m band from 136 to 174 MHz.
With a width of 160 mm, a height of 50 mm and a depth of 185 mm as well as 1.9 kg, the FT-2980E is very handy and yet not too small. The power supply of 13.8 V / 13 A is possible with a mains adapter, but also by battery mobile or on a field day or expedition.
