Technical description FT-818ND
The Yaesu FT-818ND is a very compact all-mode portable transceiver for all shortwave bands, 6 m, 2 m and 70 cm. The maximum transmit power is 6 watts. It can be reduced to 2.5, 1 and 0.5 watts.
The receiver operates continuously from 100 kHz to 56 MHz as a double super and thus enables very good values with regard to sensitivity and large-signal behaviour. With the factory-installed TCXO, the transceiver achieves a frequency stability of ± 0.5 ppm. A mechanical Collins filter can be fitted, which offers maximum selectivity in a power-saving manner.
In a further range from 76 to 164 MHz, AM aeronautical radio and FM broadcasting can be received in addition to amateur radio in the 2 m band. The 70 cm reception range from 420 to 470 MHz also goes far beyond the 70 cm amateur radio band. Two channels can be monitored simultaneously (dual watch), 208 memory channels are available in total.
The antenna connection on the back of the unit is a PL socket, a BNC socket is mounted on the front. Which output is used can be selected per amateur radio band. An electronic Morse key is integrated into the unit, which is capable of semi-break-in and thus also represents a high-quality portable QRP solution for CW.
Application description FT-818ND
The FT-818ND offers operation on all shortwave bands from 160 to 10 m including 60 m as well as on the 6 m, 2 m and 70 cm bands. The maximum transmit power is 6 W in SSB/CW and 2 W in AM. SSB (USB/LSB), CW, AM and FM modes are available. The small size of 135 mm x 38 mm x 165 mm and the weight of only 900 g make the FT-818ND the ideal portable radio to carry in your backpack, but of course it can also be used in your car or at home in your shack.
The high ease of use of the FT-818ND all-mode transceiver is ensured, among other things, by the large and easy-to-read LC display, which can be backlit in golden yellow or sky blue, depending on personal preference. A large tuning knob, a volume/squelch control, and a multifunction knob, together with the menus, ensure quick and clear operation. Three buttons on the front panel can be freely assigned according to the user's preferences.
The FT-818ND supports the ATAS-25 portable antenna, which covers all bands from 40 m to 70 cm. The scope of delivery includes handheld microphone MH-31A8J, rechargeable battery SBR-32MH (9.6 V / 1900 mAh), empty battery case, 12 V cable, clip-on antenna YHA-63 and a carrying strap. Packet radio is supported at 1200 and 9600 bps.
The power supply of 13.8 V / 2.7 A (possible are 8 to 16 V) is possible with a mains adapter, with the built-in rechargeable battery, but also by battery mobile, or on a field day or expedition.
