Technical description FT-991ALike all modern transceivers, the Yaesu FT-991A is equipped with the latest DSP technology. This ensures excellent reception through almost freely selectable filter bandwidths, notch filters and noise reduction. The receiver operates from 30 kHz to 56 MHz, 118 to 164 MHz and 420 to 470 Mhz as a triple super (FM and C4FM: double super) and thus enables very good values regarding sensitivity and large-signal behaviour.
On the transmitting side, a parametric microphone equaliser ensures the best modulation. A voice memory is built in (voice keyer). Of course, the familiar Yaesu comfort functions for telegraphy (zero beat tuning, contest keyer...) can also be found on the FT-991A. With the factory installed TCXO, the transceiver achieves a frequency stability of ± 0.5 ppm.
For friends of digital operating modes, the FT-991A offers a USB interface directly from the factory. With a suitable driver and software, you can quickly be on the air in digital modes such as RTTY, PSK31 or WSJT without the need for an additional sound card interface. The USB interface also offers a CAT function for remote control of the transceiver.
To be prepared for the future on VHF/UHF, Yaesu equips the FT-991A with the new digital operating mode C4FM. Thus, in addition to FM and SSB, operation via Yaesu "System Fusion" repeaters is also possible in C4FM. The C4FM modulation mode offers many advantages such as good intelligibility, high compression and variable bandwidth usage. In addition to the digitised speech, other digital data can also be transmitted simultaneously.
Application description FT-991AThe Yaesu FT-991A offers everything a radio operator's heart desires: a whopping 100 W transmit power on all shortwave bands from 160 to 10 m and on 6 m, 50 W on 2 m and 70 cm. In addition, radio operation in all modes, whether SSB, AM or FM, telegraphy or the new and increasingly popular digital mode C4FM from Yaesu. AMS (Automatic Modes Switching) enables automatic switching between analogue FM and digital C4FM operation, while the Group Monitor with DG-ID (Digital Group ID) allows you to set up talk groups.
Despite its compact housing of 229 x 80 x 253 mm and 4.3 kg, the FT-991A is easy to operate. This is also ensured by the easy-to-read, colour LC touch display with 8.9 cm (3.5") diagonal. All important controls are easily accessible via the touch display from the front panel; with a large, smooth tuning knob, even users of traditional radios will feel immediately at home. An automatic antenna tuner with a matching range of 16.5 to 150 ohms for the amateur radio bands from 160 to 6 m is also integrated. This means that many antennas can still be used even if they are not 100% matched.
The power supply of 13.8 V / 23 A is possible with a mains adapter, but also by battery mobile, or on a field day or expedition. The FT-991A supports the ATAS-25 portable antenna as well as the ATAS-120A mobile antenna, both of which already cover all bands from 40 m to 70 cm.
