Technical description IC-7760

The Icom IC-7760 is a state-of-the-art transceiver that impresses with its innovative technologies and flexible installation options. The device uses a separate configuration of control unit and RF deck (which contains the actual radio), which are connected via a standard LAN cable. This design allows for flexible installation, as the control panel can be placed anywhere in the house as long as there is a LAN connection. The RF deck can be installed in a separate environment, such as a rack or near the antenna connection. This reduces interference from fan noise and ensures more efficient heat dissipation.

The control panel of the IC-7760 is equipped with two touch displays: a 7-inch main display (800 × 480 pixels, WVGA) and a 2.4-inch sub-display (320 × 240 pixels). Both displays are touch-sensitive and offer intuitive control and display of operating frequencies, spectrum scopes, S-meters and RTTY/PSK31/63 decoding messages. The sub-display shows additional information such as filter settings and band stacking registers for improved visibility and operability.

The IC-7760 features dual, independent receivers for MAIN and SUB bands, providing simultaneous reception performance of two signals in different bands and modes. The dual spectrum scopes enable simultaneous display of MAIN and SUB bands and greatly improve monitoring of band conditions. The RF direct sampling system converts RF signals directly into digital signals, which are then processed by an FPGA (Field Programmable Gate Array), reducing distortion that can occur in analog signal processing.

For optimum signal processing, the IC-7760 is equipped with a digital preselector (DIGI-SEL), which effectively suppresses interfering signals outside the band and thus prevents overmodulation. In combination with the preamplifier, the transceiver utilizes the entire dynamic range of the A/D converter to ensure improved sensitivity and signal quality.

With a maximum transmission power of 200 W and a 100% duty cycle, the IC-7760 is also ideally suited for demanding operating modes such as FT8. The use of Digital Pre-Distortion (DPD) technology compensates for non-linear distortion in the power amplifier, ensuring clean and efficient signal transmission.

Application description IC-7760

The Icom IC-7760 is ideal for demanding radio amateurs looking for flexibility, performance and ease of use in their station. The separate configuration of the control unit and RF deck allows the user to conveniently place the control unit in different locations around the house. Connection via a home network allows flexible remote control so that the transceiver can be operated from any room where a LAN connection is available.

The IC-7760's dual receivers and spectrum scopes allow simultaneous monitoring and analysis of two different bands, making it ideal for contesters and DXers who need to react quickly to changing band conditions. The integrated audio scope function allows the frequency components of received and transmitted signals to be visualized and adjusted, making it easier to fine-tune the signal characteristics.

In addition, the IC-7760 offers numerous functions that facilitate operation and make every QSO an experience. These include an SD card slot for storing voice recordings, user configurations and firmware updates, as well as the option of remote control via the separately available RS-BA1 software. A built-in automatic antenna tuner enables fast and accurate band changes, while the optional RC-28 control unit provides flexible control of the SUB band tuning functionality.

With these extensive features and state-of-the-art technology, the Icom IC-7760 is a first-class choice for radio amateurs who want to perform both local and remote operations efficiently and reliably.
