Technical description
The OP-DES (Opposing Phase - Driven Element System) Yagi is a development of Justin Johnson, G0KSC. It was designed specifically for RF applications where bandwidth AND power are of great importance. As such, all models in this series provide full coverage of the FM broadcast band from 88 - 108 MHz.
The OP-DES Yagi has a special feature: it has an impedance of 50 ohms at the feed point, and all impedance transformation takes place in the fed element itself, so the antenna is not susceptible to matching losses as is the case with conventional Yagis.
In the OP-DES, the ends of a split dipole are bent back toward the reflector element. This has 2 functions: First, the current phase in each end section is in phase opposition and therefore cancels each other out, helping to reduce/eliminate side lobes. Also, these end sections act as impedance regulators, taking over this task from D1 (first director), making it much easier to match the antenna, resulting in better performance.
The precisely manufactured antennas have undergone extensive simulations, are made of high quality materials and have stainless steel mounting hardware for long life and high reliability.
