Supply Scope
- Twinwire, type and length according to choice
Parallel wire cable is used as a high frequency cable for antennas. Typical antenna designs using this cable are G5RV, Zepp, dipoles and others. The spacing and conductor thickness essentially determine the impedance of the cable, usually 300 or 450 ohms is chosen. The feed is usually via a balanced tuner or via a suitable balun.
Other names for this type of cable are two-wire cable, ribbon cable, twinwire, twin cable, chicken wire (in certain designs because of the rungs between the conductors).
The advantage of such two-wire cables is a simpler impedance-compliant adaptation to dipoles and a lower attenuation than with coaxial cables. A disadvantage is the more complex installation with a certain minimum distance to other cables and metallic objects.
