WIMO Expert opinion

You benefit from a robust antenna with a long service life, as it is made of solidly processed materials such as anodized cast aluminium and UV-resistant plastic. You can sit back and relax during installation, because everything is included for you - no additional tools or special knowledge required. You don't have to worry about settings, as the antenna covers a wide bandwidth and is ready for immediate use. You have the freedom to choose from a variety of models that cover different frequency ranges and requirements.
If you are located in Europe, tuning to the 446 MHz frequency may be better with the X-50NA and X-200A models than with the regular versions, which are optimized for frequencies around 430-440 MHz. The slightly larger size of the antenna may not be ideal for locations with very limited space, but it offers higher gain and better performance in return.

Extremely popular omnidirectional antenna for the FM range

* Robust construction, solid materials, long durability
* No adjustment necessary, wide range
* Easy installation, everything included
* Large selection of models

Almost every radio amateur has such an "X" on the roof - the Diamond omnidirectional VHF/UIHF antenna. Perfect for the local club call channel, the next repeater or the APRS station. They are available for 2m and 70cm, some models also for 23cm and 6m.

The Diamond antennas have a robust construction and will last for many years without any problems. The base is made of anodised cast aluminium, the outer tube of UV-resistant plastic (FRP, Fibre Reinforced Plastic). The internal, protected radiator is made of thick brass or copper-bronze. This makes the antennas durable even in rough conditions, they can be used up to wind speeds of 144km/h or more. The mounting is done by a mounting pipe, which protects the coaxial socket against external influences. The mounting pipe is attached to a mast with two supplied clamps and U-bolts. Radials (if used), screws and brackets are made of stainless steel, mounting pipe and clamps are made of aluminium.

The antennas are electrically grounded, thus avoiding static electricity and noise in the receiver. The Diamond SE, X and VX series use multiple stacked radiators for higher gain. The radiation pattern becomes flatter as the gain increases. The longer antennas are divided into two or three parts for transport. This keeps the transport costs within reasonable limits. These antennas must be assembled before the first use. The joints are well sealed with an O-ring to avoid water ingress. Some models are available with either PL or N socket. The models X-50NA and X-200A are actually intended for the North American market. These antennas cover the larger 70cm frequency range used in that region (435-450 MHz). This makes them very suitable for PMR446 in Europe. The regular versions of the X-50N/X-200 use the lower frequency range (430-440 MHz) and do not have an optimal matching anymore at 446 MHz. Some models (VX-, SE-) are constructed without radials and are therefore very suitable for confined spaces or for installation on board a sailboat. As the German Diamond general agency, we only supply the original antennas in the well-known top quality. As befits a reliable manufacturer, Diamond supplies the right spare parts even after many years, should a radial be lost.
