Technical description
The LEO kits from YU1CF / Antennas Amplifiers are specially designed for operation with amateur radio satellites in low earth orbit (LEO). Unlike geostationary satellites with a "fixed" position relative to the Earth's surface, LEO's move in a circular or elliptical orbit around the Earth. The duration of the overflights varies depending on the satellite and can be as short as 20 minutes. During this time window, the satellites act as amateur radio repeaters, with the range corresponding to the "footprint" of the satellite in question.
Ideally, this is done in clockwise circular polarization. This polarization is realized with the phase lines and the antennas of the LEO kits.
The phase lines each have an N jack on the side to the radio.
Application description
YU1CF simplifies the entry into the fascinating world of satellite communication with the "standard" LEO kit (2x4 elements VHF, 2x8 elements UHF, 1.70m booms). For advanced and especially demanding users we offer the "Big" LEO kit (2x7 elements VHF, 2x15 elements UHF, 3.5m booms), due to the longer antennas these have correspondingly more antenna gain.
The VHF and UHF cross yagis included in the kit are connected horizontally side by side with a suitable round tube (ideal: GRP pipe with 40mm diameter). This is then connected to the antenna mast.
Since the satellites follow a path across the sky in low earth orbit, a corresponding rotor controllable in azimuth and elevation is also required.
