This new antenna type looks like a vertical antenna but radiates with horizontal polarisation and high gain.

The antenna has a bidirectional radiation with an 8-shaped radiation diagramm, just like a horizontal dipole. The gain ranges from 10 to 12 dBi, depending on installation height over ground, in free space around 7 dBi. The radiation angle of radiation very low, about 13° at installation 1m above ground, or 7° at 3m above ground.

The antenna has a height of 2m and requires almost no surface space, ideal for cramped conditions. In some cases this antenna might be the only option for horizontal polarisation.

The VGR Antenna does not require radials, the feed point is at the bottom, the connector is a N-jack. Maximum power load is 250 W PEP SSB or 100 W FM.

The loops are made of corrosion-resistant aluminium and all screws are made of stainless steel.

The antenna was designed by Prof. Dr.-Ing. Gerd Janzen, DF6SJ.

The antenna weighs 2.4 kg, is delivered complete with mast clamps and can be split up in half making it well suited for portable use, too. Transport length is only 1,15 m. The center frequency of the antenna can be adjusted when assembling the antenna. Without adjustment the center frequency is located in the lower half of the 2m band, read for SSB/CW operation. Nevertheless the antenna has sufficient bandwidth to be useable over the entire band range.
