Icom has been developing radio communication equipment for over forty years. Our history has been technical challenge and excellence from the first analog PLL circuit in the IC-200, to the ground-breaking 32-bit floating point DSP of the IC-756PRO. Icom has always given shape to ideas with this technical accumulation. Recent Ham radio stations increasingly use high power and high gain antennas that raise the field strength of unintended signals, and thus require a wider receiver dynamic range. Icom has developed the new flagship model IC-7800 which is a fusion of forty years analog RF circuit development expertise, with cutting edge digital technology.

The result is 110 dB dynamic range, +40 dB 3rd order intercept point in HF bands and other phenomenal performance features. The receivers combine various current and new technology, to obtain the +40dBm IP3, a specification never before achieved in Ham radio. Quite simply put, the IC-7800 is the ultimate Ham radio. Nothing else comes close!

Icom Inc. introduces the new IC-7850, an HF/50MHz transceiver. Pre-release information for Icom's newest ham radio rig was recently shared at the JARL Ham Fair 2014 (Tokyo Ham Fair 2014), which took place on August 23-24 in Japan. New IC-7850 features include but are not limited to: optimized roofing filter, new first local oscillator (LO) design and enhanced spectrum scope. Approximately 150 IC-7850 units (worldwide) will be released as a limited edition to commemorate the company's 50th anniversary.

The IC-7850 perfects HF operation with new features such as a 1.2 kHz optimized roofing filter to improve in-band adjacent signal performance. The new radio's up-conversion design supports a dynamic range that outperforms competitors' similar models in the 2 to 10 kHz separation tests. Unlike HF rigs that use a conventional voltage controlled oscillator for the 1st LO, the IC-7850 employs a direct digital oscillator (DDS) with a voltage controlled SAW oscillator (VCSO). This new 1st LO design sets a new benchmark for phase noise with -150dBc/Hz at 10 kHz offset (and -140dBc/Hz at 1 kHz offset).

Icom's IC-7850 also features the spectrum waterfall function found in the manufacturer's IC-7700 and IC-7800 upgrade models. The high-resolution waterfall screen shows the changing amplitude of frequencies over time. An enhanced spectrum scope promotes fast and accurate scan and can be operated with PC mouse via USB port. A dual scope function shows simultaneous activity in both bands. This is useful for searching a sub-band while maintaining a run frequency on the main band.
